The latest updates the UK's leading mixed case wine merchant

Eduardo Chadwick, President of Viña ErrazurizWe’ve asked Eduardo Chadwick, President of champion Chilean winery Viña Errazuriz for his unique take on the wine world…

Q. How long has Errazuriz been producing wines in Chile?
A. This year we are proud to celebrate our 140th anniversary.

Q. How were you affected by the earthquake earlier this year?
A. Many of our workers had their houses destroyed. We organised ourselves to help those most in need, repairing homes and building new ones. Also, we established a solidarity fund, donating one dollar for every case of Max Reserva wine shipped this year to fund house and school reconstruction for the families of our workers.

Q. How do vintages vary in Chile – is it as big a factor as in Europe?
A. We normally have very healthy conditions right up to harvest, with very little rain and normally free of disease. However, vintages can vary, as the Pacific Ocean brings varying temperatures which accelerate or delay our harvest times. But it is not as important as in Europe, as we can wait for the desired ripeness in even very cool seasons.

Q. What are your favourite grape varieties?
A. Carmènere has a unique, rich, complex flavour and soft, attractive texture. Also I am a fanatic of our cool Aconcagua Costa Errazuriz Sauvignon Blanc, ideal as an apéritif wine.

Q. Can you recommend some favourite food matches with your wines?
A. Carmènere goes great with lamb, pork, beef, even a kidney pie! Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay with seafood and fish.
