Majestic Bracknell en Provence

Majestic Bracknell store pageWith the hype of spring/summer in the air (albeit in reality we’re in the midst of gloomy April showers!), last week when the latest shipment of Provence rosé arrived at Majestic there were many happy faces. Will at Majestic Bracknell was one of these and has posted a tasting note on the Bracknell store page about his “wine of the week”.

Château Pigoudet ‘La Chapelle’ Rosé 2009, Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence

Whenever I think of Provence, images of the Mediterranean climate, the beach front of St. Tropez and the sparkling Côte d’Azur spring to mind; this is the playground for the rich and famous. People have always been drawn to this littoral part of France, but the beauty of this region does not stop along the coast. Head 20 miles in land towards the small Provençal town of Aix-en-Provence, and you will find almost 9000 acres of vineyards set amongst the lavender and garrigue. The picturesque setting even attracted Picasso in 1959, moving into a Château in the village of Vauvenargues, made famous by Cézanne’s masterpieces. This truly is an area steeped in artistic history, with more than a hint of old and new glamour.

From their surroundings and ideal climate, smaller boutique vineyards have made a name for themselves. Set in a similarly striking valley close to the River Durance, Château Pigoudet benefits from sunshine all year round. Their ‘La Chapelle’ Rosé is an ideal match to its environment, and is one of those wines which you have on holiday and want to bring home with the fresh and unfamiliar summer holiday aromas. It is light to the taste and elegant throughout. Subtle and delicate apple with ripe cherry flavours linger on the palate, rounding off with a soft aromatic finish. I cannot say that it will transport you to that small Provençal town, or even guarantee that long Indian summer we are always promised, but it will give you that ephemeral glimpse of Provence and a flash of its beauty and history.

Currently £7.99* on multi-buy price, and is on our tasting counter to try today.
