We’re still waiting for the really big guns to release, but there is now a steady stream of excellent wines from Bordeaux, starting this week with wines from the left-bank communes of Margaux, St Julien and Pauillac as well as a St-Emilion and a Pomerol. Between them there is quite a contrast in styles, but each was excellent in its own way. If you are not already signed up to our email alerts, then you should be, as the best wines sell out almost instantaneously. You can see today’s email release online here.
I just loved the Pomerol, Chateau Beauregard, which is everything Pomerol should be, but so often isn’t. Plump, opulent and generous, but with just enough backbone to hold it all together. While it won’t be one of the star-turns affordable only to oligarchs, it is an immensely pleasurable drink and will be lovely in a few years.
