Please excuse the flagrantly self-congratulatory title, but we’re all rather chuffed at having picked up a brace of awards at last night’s Off Licence News Drinks Retailing Awards. In addition to High Street Chain of the Year we were also named Online/Direct Sales Retailer of the Year.
We are also very pleased that former Majestic Chief Executive Tim How was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for his two decades in the wine trade. Perhaps the greatest testimony to how deserved this award is were the sheer number of Majestic-trained people present at The Dorchester last night; in all corners of the drinks trade are people who have benefitted from Tim’s belief in product and sales training.
I like the OLN Awards, mainly because they do a good job of casting the spotlight on smaller independent off licences as well as the major national chains, with categories like Neighbourhood Off Licence of the Year and Independent Beer Retailer of the Year.
(Of course, I’m also quite partial to the dinner and drinks. And you get a goody bag, packed with the oddest assortment of beverages and marketing gimmicks – anyone for a WKD mouse?)
