Recently at auction we purchased quite a substantial parcel of 2000 vintage clarets. It was massive auction of one person’s cellar (although they only sold the 2000’s) that spanned over two days. With some very selective buying, we have managed to bag some phenomenal wines.
Some of you may say that the 2000’s are too young and don’t offer any value for money. To that I would tell you to think again. A few years back, Robert Parker said that “the millennium vintage produced great quality and historically high prices that may not be matched for many years to come” (Bordeaux 4th Edition, Robert Parker). Well we didnt have to wait too long to see those historic prices get completely blown out of the water by the 2005’s. The 2000’s now seem to be offering value for money (in most cases), and despite the claims that these muscular giants will take an eternity to evolve, they are drinking lovely now!
So back to the wines.
All of the wine is currently in Octavian awaiting release. So what have we got? How much will they be? (prices quoted are per bottle).
My pick of the bunch has to be the Sarget de Gruaud Larose at £25.00. It’s a knockout wine for the money! I have been buying this fabulous second wine (second wine of Gruaud Larose) for a few years now, and it never ceases to amaze me. It has power, structure, opulence and a finish that will rival wines at two and three times the price!
