Bordeaux 2008: day four

Our final day of tastings has seen us take a closer look at the Graves, Sauternes, and the wines of Haut-Médoc, Moulis and Listrac.

The quality of the wines has remained pretty high. There are hopefully going to be some good value cru bourgeois wines to be had from the 2008 vintage, and several Pessac-Léognan properties have also delivered.

The Sauternes tasting was interesting. The wines are perfectly nice, but suffer in comparison to last year – less acidity and complexity, with an aroma of canned pineapple that is remarkably consistent across the properies.

I have to keep this short because our flight is about to be called, but just to round off I should mention that we are quite confident this will be a short, swift en primeur campaign. Of course, we’ve heard this before and been disappointed, but all the signs are pointing that way.
