Bordeaux 2008: Léoville-Poyferré, Gruaud Larose, d’Armailhac
There’s a fair old buzz building about the 2008 campaign as commentators’ scores and reviews continue to express pleasant surprise at the quality of the vintage, and the wines continue to be released quickly and at sensible prices. Following a very well received release of Léoville-Barton yesterday, today we have three other well-priced left-bank properties to offer.
In value terms we like the look of d’Armailhac a lot, with a really approachable, ripely-fruited, modern style that’s a very impressive buy at £230 per case. From St-Julien we have Léoville-Poyferré, a savoury, meaty wine that we tasted several times during the week with consistent, and impressive notes. Gruaud-Larose is a more subtle expression of St-Julien, very classical, elegant and pretty. Both these wines have good followings among Majestic customers en primeur.
Customers should read our vintage report, and be familiar with the timetable for Bordeaux 2008 before purchasing. En Primeur wines are priced for in-bond delivery and do not include duty, VAT and handling.
