Dante Cecchini: My Secret Florence

My Secret… a new feature for spring ’13.

We’re asking the people behind our wines to reveal their favourite places to Eat, Drink, Sleep, Shop and See in their town or city. Dante from Castello Banfi in Tuscany shares his secret Florence…

Ristorante Cibreo. Glamorous, relaxed, delicious Tuscan food. There is no printed menu, the waiter shows you to your table, discusses your tastes and then suggests the best dishes.

I Due Fratellini (The Two Little Brothers). A hole in the wall built into the side of a church, the restaurant is probably 20 sq feet in size. The two owners (the little brothers) stand behind a counter in a tiny room  and serve amazing food to locals who eat standing in the street. The delightful porchetta is rich and intense, and the Lardo di Colonnata is like a cloud full of flavour.

Almost anywhere… wine, wine, wine! Wines from the whole galaxy of hilly Tuscany. Montalcino, Chianti, Montepulciano are all areas a short drive distance from Florence. A name of place is also the name of wine in Tuscany. And for a great aperitivo try Colle Bereto in Piazza Strozzi.

Lungarno Suites by Ferragamo Family. Welcome to the relaxed luxury of an Italian Family that became a dynasty of fashion.

Fashion… the House of Gucci and the House of Ferragamo have their headquarters here and their museums and palaces are a delight. But I will suggest Santa Maria Novella Pharmacy. Perfumes and products from a beautiful laboratory established 5 centuries ago… and they are still there making amazing goods.

Every street, palace, corner, it’s Florence after all! Getting inside the palaces… I really love one of the Museums at Pitti Palace, the Galleria Palatina. Only there you can see invaluable works of arts arranged as everyday objects by the Florentine royalty. There is a Raphael used as wall paper too.
