Summer’s the perfect time to get together and enjoy a drop of something sparkling. And whether you’re holding a plush garden party, hosting a family celebration or just getting out the barbecue to enjoy the weather with friends, we’ve got every occasion covered.
Raboso Rosado Corte Alta NV, Italy
The ultimate crowd-pleasing apéritif, this great-value, salmon-tinged rosé has a soft mousse, refreshing acidity and strawberry split, cherry, watermelon and red berry aromas that follow onto the palate.
Codorníu Seleccion Raventos NV, Spain
Adding Chardonnay to the traditional Cava varieties creates a more aromatic style of wine. The palate shows full-bodied peach and citrus characters with refreshing acidity, lovely fine bubbles and good length. The perfect canapé companion.
La Marca Prosecco Treviso Extra Dry, Italy
Pale lemon in colour with fine, persistent bubbles, this has a light, refreshing nose with pear-drop, peach and melon hints. Alongside pear and white grape flavours, it has a refreshing acidity that makes it a great palate cleanser, not to mention a classy welcome drink.
Gratien & Meyer Saumur, Loire
Pale yellow in colour and bright in the glass, this is classic Saumur, with a floral nose and a lively, Chenin-infused palate of peach with clean acidity and a slightly creamy finish. Serve with white fish or chicken dishes.
Codorníu Reina Maria Cristina 2007, Spain
A vintage Cava launched in honour of the Queen of Austria, who granted Codorníu the title of ‘Official Provider of the Royal House’. Its bubbles are delicate; its aromas fresh and floral; and its pear and brioche flavours well-balanced. A fantastic apéritif; just as good with tasty white fish dishes.
Prosecco La Marca Cuvée NV, Italy
For perfect bellinis this summer, get a FREE sachet of Funkin White Peach Purée with every bottle of Prosecco La Marca Cuvée. Just mix 1 part purée with 3-4 parts Prosecco in a Champagne flute and stir.
Green Point Brut 2005, Australia
Made in the Yarra Valley by Moët & Chandon, this amazing Champagne-style New World sparkler shows sweet pastry and nutty, freshly baked bread on the nose, with a citrus and melon palate. Its fresh, creamy flavours accent seafood dishes like oysters and sushi superbly.
Cloudy Bay Pelorus Rose NV, New Zealand
New and Exclusive to Majestic! £16.99
An elegant, great-value wine to rival many of its Champagne counterparts. Its wonderful, flinty, justafter-a-downpour nose also shows sweet spice, cloves and a hint of strawberry. The creamy, subtle palate brims with juicy strawberries and cranberries, and there’s rose petal to finish. Serve with prawn dishes or canapés.
Jacquart L’Oenotheque 2000
Rich yellow-gold in colour and made with grapes sourced exclusively from the finest Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. There’s an alluring blend of honey, apples and freshly baked bread on the nose, joined by a hint of peach on the palate. A graceful toasting wine that also pairs up beautifully with foie gras.
Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut NV
This consistently good NV is one of my favourites. It’s an approachable wine with fresh green apples and pears on the nose and palate, a refreshing, zesty mousse and great length. Terrific for toasting.
Laurent-Perrier Brut NV
Laurent-Perrier’s NV offers a lighter house style than most; well balanced with subtle citrus, toast and sweet spice notes, a fine mousse and good acidity and structure. It’s a food-loving Champagne – try with chicken dishes, smoked salmon or canapés.
Made in only the very best years to retain the signature house style while reflecting the unique qualities of the vintage. Seven years’ bottle ageing allows complex characters to develop, from peach, grapefruit and hints of dried almond on the nose to weighty red-cherry flavours on the palate. The citrus finish is lovely and long.
Bollinger Rosé NV
Unmistakably rich, yet with vibrant berry notes, this oozes juicy cherry, strawberry, pink grapefruit and brioche aromas, with a sultry and sleek texture. A must for anybody planning to celebrate in style, it’s never better than at weddings.
Bollinger Grande Année 2002
From the much-heralded 2002 vintage and made exclusively with Grand Cru grapes, this is a fixture in my top five Champagnes – and proof that it pays to be that picky! The sumptuous, biscuity, yeasty choice for party hosts out to impress.
Barons de Rothschild NV Champagne
Made from 60% Chardonnay primarily from Grand Cru sites, this exceptional cuvée exudes aromas of pears, almonds and fresh hazelnuts that marry seamlessly with hints of white flowers and toasty notes.
Whichever fizz you fancy, I hope it makes for a great party.
