Majestic Crowned New Zealand Specialist At 2020 Decanter Awards

Majestic, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, has today been awarded the title ‘Specialist New Zealand Retailer of the Year’ at the 2020 Decanter Merchant Awards.

Alongside the recognition for their Kiwi range, the retailer also scooped up runner-up in Loire Specialist, Australia Specialist – and the notable ‘Judge’s Choice Award’ category.

The Decanter Retailer Awards judging process is based on what Decanter readers think is most important to them when purchasing wines: Quality, Value, Range and Service. Speaking upon receiving the award, Majestic’s Head of PR Jack Merrylees said:

“This is the first time we’ve been so much as shortlisted for a specialist category, so to win the New Zealand award and come runner-up in two others is a fantastic achievement. It’s a real testimony to the incredible work our Buying Team have done this year, even in incredibly challenging circumstances.

Getting our range back to where it belongs, with specialist credentials at its heart is what both our colleagues and customers are really excited to see. And the fact that the Decanter judges also agree we’re moving in the right direction is extremely gratifying. Given we had only completed under half our reviews going into this year’s awards, we’ll certainly be aiming even higher in 2021!”

Speaking to Decanter, judge Andy Howard MW commented on this year’s wards, “I was almost astonished at how good most of the entries were given the environment that everybody was in when they would have been doing this, so I think an awful lot of commendation needs to be given to the people who’ve put this together.”

All proceeds from the 2020 awards and an additional donation made by Decanter were donated to The Drinks Trust and The Ben, raising an impressive total of £25k for these UK drinks industry charities. Learn more here.
