New in Spain

paellaMoving West we’re heading to Spain for introducing our latest new wine in the Majestic range. This is a Gewürztraminer from the region of Somontano, located in the foothills of the Pyrenees. This area has focussed on Gewürztraminer since its inception as a DO in 1984 and has been found to flourish in this environment. Majestic wine buyer Matt Pym tells us it’s “a lovely delicate and fresh example” so why not pop a couple in your trolley as at £5.99 on offer, a wine of this quality is fantastic value for money!

Viñas del Vero Gewürztraminer 2009, Somontano
Buy 2 bottles save £4 = £5.99

GRAPE: Gewürztraminer

ORIGIN: Somontano gets its name from the fact that it lies at the foot of the mountains, in this case the Pyrenees. Viñas del Vero is responsible for around 40% of wine production in this region. This Gewürztraminer comes from a plot known as ‘El Enebro’.

TASTE: An intense, lifted floral nose, with wafts of rose and honeysuckle amid a burst of tropical fruit. Characteristic lychee and peach flavours are delivered with a hint of sweetness and satisfying texture.

ENJOY: Matches superbly with fragrant seafood dishes such as paella, or with mildly spiced fish dishes.

  1. Had this gewurtz last night with Delia’s Hung Shao pork and it was spot on. The freshness cuts easily through the sweet and savoury characters. Perfect for a happy Chinese New Year

  2. This is amazingly good for the money! Kudos to the Spanish for managing to take such a sensitive grape and make such a great wine from it!
