Nice one. But seriously, you’d have to be immersed in wine to know that Malbec makes up any proportion of Bordeaux wines at all, and how sure are you that any of the Médoc AOC rules allow it?
Well we couldn’t make it too easy!
The INAO permit Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Carménère to be planted in Médoc AOC. Malbec was still pretty widespread until 1956 when frost destroyed around three quarters of all plantings. Most of it can be found today in Entre-Deux-Mers and the Côtes-du-Bourg.
Well, you learn something every day. I didn’t know that. Thanks!
