Last night Majestic staff were treated to a wine tasting in London hosted by Sud de France at The House of the Region Languedoc – Roussillon.
The evening centred around the wineries of Gerard Bertrand, Paul Mas, Laurent Miquel and Domaine Les Yeuses, represented by winemakers and members of the Sud de France Maison in London. A wide selection of wines were tried on the evening with my particular favourite being the Picpoul de Pinet, which is a natural partner for oysters!
I snuck in a bit early to ask the Wineries a few questions:
What’s your favourite wine?
François Miquel: I’d start with a Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé, then Pinot Noir as a second wine and finish off with Château l’Hospitalet Grand Vin
Laurent Miquel: I’d like to try Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. I like to drink Syrah based wines, like Crozes-Hermitage.
If you didn’t work in Wine?
François Miquel: I’d like to be a mountain biker, or work in that industry. Also I like the Tour de France, my favourite rider from the Tour this year was Jean-Christophe Péraud, he finished 10th.
Laurent Miquel: I used to work in the car industry for Nissan in Sunderland. I speak a few words with a Geordie accent now!

The wine in that glass was the Château l’Hospitalet – Louisa thinks it tastes like “peppery violet” #suddefrance
Favourite place in London?
François Miquel: I love the cliché: Piccadilly, Westminster and the typical London pubs.
Laurent Miquel: Indian Restaurants! We don’t have anything like this in France.
What is a regular feature in your fridge?
François Miquel: Wine for sure! White and red. Food, charcuterie, pâté, foie gras (always 4 or 5 boxes) tomatoes, salad, red meats and cheeses.
Fabienne Capello: A lot of red wines! For food, I’m Italian so I like, Mozzarella, basil, good tomatoes and pasta. I can also make anything with pasta.
