Today Majestic is pleased to begin offering 2007 Vintage Ports en primeur.
As I mentioned in my earlier post, Vintage Port is a great buy en primeur partly because it is only ‘declared’ in exceptional vintages, and partly because it is the most affordable way to buy wine to cellar for several decades. This also makes it the perfect wine to buy for a christening or to mark another significant 2007 event. Having said that, the elegance of these wines and suppleness of the tannins suggest they will be much more enjoyable with 5-10 years of aging than the extremely powerful 2003s.
So what to buy? Taylor, Fonseca and Graham are historically the most popular with Majestic customers and have delivered excellent 2007s; personally I think Taylor was my favourite of this trio but it’s a close call. My other tip this year is Dow – its more austere house style seemed to perfectly suit this fresh, elegant vintage, and I absolutely loved it.
Customers who have not ordered en primeur before should read our ‘What is En Primeur?’ page to familiarise themselves with how it works. Customers should also check the timetable for the campaign and our 2007 vintage report.
